To reduce the water footprint, the paper industry has reduced it’s water consumption step by step.
The increased reuse of water lead to accumulation of impurities and caused high water hardness and odour.
As a consequence the paper mill encountered serious scaling problems in the effluent treatment plant.
Extra equipment for water softening did not bring the expected solution.
Finally a different way of managing process water and effluent turned out to be the most succesfull approach. Instead of fighting circumstances, a different way of handling them can also be the solution.
